Jeanette Armstrong
-I was inspired by the opening song Jeanette sang with the other indigenous people. Therefore, I decided to write a poem connecting the Okanagan Song with the Canadian anthem. I hope to demonstrate the inconsistencies between these perspectives through this simple piece.
The Okanagan Song
We are beautiful because our land is,
Our home and native land.
We are beautiful because our land is,
The true north strong and free.
We are beautiful because our land is,
We stand on guard for thee.
We are beautiful because our land is,
Glorious and free.
Oh Canada.
Oh Canada.
We are beautiful because our land is.
Paul Whiteman Orchestra – The Ogo-Pogo
We were trying to be more creative with this response so I tried my hand at visual art. The four chiefs and their way of achieving balance was a part I found very interesting and wanted to create a picture of the four chiefs together. I also learned what bitterroot looks like and it looks like a sweet flower which is pretty cool.
