Yes, it’s official. Alex Janvier’s gallery opened today at the new Cold Lake location on the English Bay reserve. Amazing building and site, and of course, the art that fills the space is pure genius. So much work from such a talented artist, and it’s exciting to see it inhabiting a purpose-built gallery that doesn’t reside in a major centre or museum, but on the land the artist calls home. A tribute to the project of creating spaces where they are needed, rather than catering to implausible and often colonial demands. Congratulations go out to Alex and to Jacqueline Janvier for their hard work that made this all possible.
