O k'inadas / an artist residency complicated reconciliations

Feasts, Openings, and Artists

Karolina Bialkowska

What a week!  Between brilliant panels, illuminating welcomes, lessons of the land, blind walks through downtown Kelowna, poetry readings, and arrivals and departures, the Summer Indigenous Art Intensive and the O’kinadas Residency are in full swing.

Just a quick reminder about tonight:

Double opening at the Alternator Centre for Contemporary Art. 7-9pm

Farheen Haq: Being Home and Shannon Lester: Of Goddesses and Mothers

Kelowna Art Gallery, 7pm Opening – Deborah Koenker: Grapes and Tortillas (solo show on Mexican seasonal agricultural workers in the Okanagan).

Farheen Haq has also extended a warm invite to join her in a pre-opening feast, welcome, and communal sharing of the fruits of the land we are guests upon. This will take place on the lawn of the Rotary Arts Center at 6pm, preceding her opening. Farheen will be providing local fruit and chai tea and invites any others to bring food they would like to share.
