On July 30th 2016 I had the opportunity to have a tour of Tania Willard’s BUSH Gallery, which is located in a rural area on her reserve. Tania Willard is a curator, artist, and a busy mother of two. The land BUSH gallery inhabits is lush and secluded. In her round table discussion for the O k’inādās residency, she spoke about creating welcoming spaces that kids could inhabit too. Willard also seemed displeased with the small amount of art galleries that are located on reserves. This curatorial project is innovative because it resists these constraints – of space and family – and demonstrates that there are ways outside of current art practice that work outside of these structures.
