2017 summer intensive
As those who have been following rmooc know, for the duration of the residency (and from before and since as well), Ayumi Goto runs the land with the music of various artists strapped to her body, aiming to cover 1600 km to ‘shadow’ and respect the walkers of Nishiyuu. Listening to singers such as Cheryl L’Hirondelle and Kim Gouchie, she has been running and mapping her journey which you can read at her @ayugotomathur twitter feed, an ongoing daily journal of sorts that describes the length and nature of each day’s run. Following each run, Ayumi is creating a watercolour response with attendant journal entry in english and japanese, all to the effect of asking how we might understand the land as we traverse, an act or an attempted act of reconciliation. Below, a couple of the generated maps that show her crisscrossing of Kamloops from July 15 to Aug 15, and also her runs in the lower mainland of BC. Click on the maps for larger versions.
