Adrian Stimson painting in the studio

Adrian Stimson meditates upon the complexity of intergenerational relationships – that which is verbally and non-verbally communicated between father and son with regard to residential schools – by developing a series of paintings, acrylic on woodblocks. In the paintings, images of residential schools that his father, Adrian Sr., attended, worked at, and that Adrian Jr. himself attended, are placed within a backdrop of ferocious storms that fill the horizon. The storms perhaps symbolize the events that took place within these schools as well as the unleashing of events to come, that which would reverberate through into future generations.
